R+F Leadership Retreat 2017

October 9, 2017

Have you ever taken a huge leap out of your comfort zone and hoped for the best? I did this in January when I started my own skincare company with Rodan + Fields. I initially did it out of desperation to help my tween daughter end her struggle with acne despite prescription treatment. If you have children, you know we will move hell and earth to help them. I have practiced Dermatology for 13 years and my child still struggled with acne, and it was hurting her self esteem. I knew that I had to think “outside the box” and I was willing to consider most options that did not include prescription medications. My friend Becky, a fellow Dermatology PA, introduced me to Rodan + Fields, and is now my Power Partner with our Team Dream. She and I earned a trip to Door County for a Leadership Retreat in September and learned the power of being surrounded by women driven by the desire to live the life that they dream of.

Door County, WI in September is beautiful! This weekend was warm and sunny and we were pampered with an all-inclusive weekend in two glorious lake homes in Egg Harbor. Arriving Friday evening, appetizers were waiting and the wine was flowing. I met women who were all entrepreneurs and owned their own skincare companies. But we also are Business Owners, Teachers, Nurse Anesthetists, Pharmaceutical Reps, Physician Assistants, Moms. I was suddenly surrounded by women who where not afraid to dream, but most importantly, were not afraid to go after their dreams. Many had already accomplished the levels I am striving for, and were happy to share their tips and advice. We were a group of women that believed we were meant for greater things and because of hard work and determination, we were living the lives that we never believed possible.

Saturday was spent lakeside listening to leaders train on various topics that were super helpful as we all grow our businesses. Never in all my years of college and PA school was personal development ever a topic of discussion. With this business, it is not only important but crucial. And unlike building our candle business, all of my peers were willing to help answer questions and give me advice. I was not treated as competition to them.

A private chef made us dinner Saturday evening. We had time to shop in all of the cute towns of Door County. We went for walks, played games and enjoyed each other’s company. I was also blessed to finally meet another of my Power Partners in person! The beauty of this business is that we can form friendships with people across the US. Kasey and I have talked regularly for months, but were finally able to meet and hang out for the entire weekend!¬†For the entire weekend we were spoiled with gifts, great food and drink and even better company… Friendships were formed and plans were made.

I was also so blessed to meet more of the leaders on my extended team and spend time with my mentor and friend, Deb. She is a true inspiration to me.

And my own TEAM DREAM would not be complete without my fellow Dermatology PA, friend and Power Partner, Becky!! She and I have created a team that is growing and we have learned quickly how to do conference calls, Zoom weekly Power Hour team meetings, and build a team that we are so proud of. Our goal is that each of our teammates will know that they are loved and supported with all of our hearts. Our team is dreaming big and living bigger.

A HUGE thank you goes out to SF & Co and all of the Level V leaders who helped make this weekend so memorable. In my 42 years, I have never been treated to an all-inclusive trip. It isn’t something that we experience in the medical field and it is a blessing that I do not take lightly. My soul was recharged, my path was made clear and my determination unstoppable.
